Mixed media and printing methods

In 1982 Raymond was a new contributor to The Artist magazine. In his first two articles (Mixed Metaphors 1 and 2) he described his approach to working with different media and some of the learning processes he experienced along the way. In part one he examined the way in which the use of photography, one metaphor for life, provided useful reference material for producing artwork in a variety of media including screenprinting, etching and watercolour painting, various representations of another metaphor for life, whilst recognising the pitfalls and limitations of this approach. He also pointed out how the discipline of screenprint production had influenced the design of some of his paintings. In part two he developed the theme of exploring different media to widen his vocabulary of artistic expression and described further the techniques used to produce etchings and screenprints. In a subsequent four-part series of articles on screenprinting Raymond revealed some of the more technical process behind the production of several of his own works. Examples of his prints are featured in the respective gallery sections in this website.
